About The Position

The Legal Procurement Advisor role within the Key Procurement Department involves understanding and negotiating standard procurement agreements, providing advice on regulatory compliance and legal requirements for procurement contracts, and participating in procurement negotiations. The position ensures that business and legal terms are accurately captured in agreements and reflect Key's risk tolerances. This role collaborates with internal risk partners and clients to meet business and regulatory requirements, offering legal counsel primarily to procurement strategists. Success is measured by the ability to effectively negotiate a high volume of agreements and manage the standard procurement agreement process efficiently. The advisor works collaboratively with KeyCorp risk groups and lines of business to assess business needs and risks, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree, and Juris Doctorate
• License to practice law and in good standing
• 3+ years of relevant experience
• Proficient in researching, drafting, and negotiating legal agreements
• Good written and communication skills
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to understand and work within the business, compliance, and regulatory environment associated with procurement and the financial services industry
• Ability to develop technical, legal, and business knowledge in relevant areas, and willingness to develop cross-functional knowledge
• Ability to organize information, recommend solutions, communicate, and collaborate with legal and business professionals

Responsibilities

• Act as knowledgeable business partner by providing competent and effective legal advice and support.
• Provide procurement legal contract support for assigned clients with focus on obtaining business objectives while adequately addressing associated risks.
• Perform legal research involving procurement issues.
• Provide prompt legal counsel primarily to associate procurement strategists.
• Effectively draft and negotiate contracts.
• Participate in the contract negotiation process.
• Identify and perform critical analysis of significant legal issues involving the procurement of goods and/or services.
• Utilize high-quality oral and written communication skills.
• Work with other legal professionals, including those in the Key Law Group and outside counsel.
• Identify and effectively manage risk.
• Identify risk issues and integrate the appropriate language into the agreement to mitigate such risk.
• Collaborate with compliance and risk groups to identify, assess, and mitigate risk.
• Elevate critical risk issues to line of business senior management as appropriate.
• Keep informed of latest legal and regulatory trends.
• Develop and maintain strong collaborative and collegial relationships with clients, procurement and law group colleagues.
• Develop and maintain collaborative and collegial relationships with outside attorneys and industry representatives.
• Treat co-workers, clients, and external contacts with professionalism and respect.
• Participate in project teams and support other lines of business as requested.
