About The Position

The Legal Operations and Knowledge Management Lead designs, implements, and continuously improves the operational infrastructure, technology, and knowledge-sharing systems that support the legal department's efficiency and effectiveness. You will oversee legal operations functions, such as budget and vendor management, matter management, legal technology adoption, and law department metrics. These functions include measurement and ops model benchmarking to drive law department resource optimization. Additionally, your role will involve building and maintaining knowledge management systems, like precedent banks, playbooks, and research repositories. The purpose of these systems is to capture and disseminate institutional legal knowledge across the department. Advise executives to develop functional strategies (often segment specific) on matters of significance. Exercise independent judgment and decision making on complex issues regarding job duties and related tasks, and works under minimal supervision. Use independent judgment requiring analysis of variable factors and determining the best course of action.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 9 or more years of technical experience in legal operations, knowledge management, or related legal support functions, OR a Master's degree and 5 years of relevant experience
  • 7 or more years of project leadership experience
  • 7 or more years of strategy leadership and execution experience
  • Demonstrated experience implementing or managing legal technology, matter management, or knowledge management systems
  • Proficiency analyzing legal department data, metrics and benchmarking to drive ops model and law department resource optimization
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including experience communicating with senior and executive leadership
  • Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences
  • Candidates for this role must live within commuting distance of one of Humana's offices (Louisville, KY; Washington, DC; or Chicago, IL).
  • Occasional in-office attendance will be required.

Nice To Haves

  • J.D., paralegal certification, or an advanced degree in a related field
  • Experience with legal technology platforms (e.g., contract lifecycle management, e-billing, matter management, or document/knowledge management systems)
  • Experience in the health insurance or health care industry
