About The Position

Meritage Homes is seeking future leaders for its internship program, designed to provide insight into the homebuilding industry. This part-time position is based at the Scottsdale corporate headquarters and begins in August 2026. The ideal candidate will be a current 2L or 3L law student available to work 4 hours per day. The internship offers exposure to residential construction contract law, including state-specific addendums and provisions, reviewing OSHA regulations with the VP of Contracts and Risk Management, assisting in drafting and negotiating land development agreements, and working with trade partner and subcontractor contracts, including insurance verification.

Requirements

  • Actively enrolled in a degree program from a regionally accredited university or college
  • Current 2L or 3L law student
  • Available to work 4 hours a day

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with internal business leaders to learn the homebuilding industry, the Meritage business model and an assigned functional area such as construction, land, marketing, operations, purchasing, finance, human resources, etc.
  • Learn our core values and why they drive everything we do
  • Translate classroom experience into practical application during the internship
  • Participate in cross-functional projects involving other interns and business leaders centered around current business challenges
  • Present real world business recommendations to senior leadership that can help drive our strategy
  • Write a paper focusing on the experience or another assigned topic
  • Exposed to residential construction contract law
  • Working on state specific addendums and provisions
  • Shadow our VP of Contracts and Risk Management reviewing OSHA regulations
  • Assisting in the negotiation and drafting of land development agreements
  • Working on professional services
  • Working with trade partners, subcontractors and divisional vendor contracts
  • Making sure subcontractors' insurance is up to date
