The Role We’re seeking an exceptional Legal Intern, Product & Privacy to join our Legal Department. This is a Hybrid role, requiring office presence in San Jose, CA, and reporting to the Privacy Counsel. A Privacy Legal Intern provides crucial support in navigating the rapidly evolving landscape of global data protection laws (like GDPR, CCPA, etc.). Their work ensures the company maintains continuous legal compliance, mitigates significant regulatory risk, and upholds consumer trust by advising on data governance and policy implementation.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Juris Doctor (J.D.) program (e.g., rising 2L or 3L) with a strong academic record.
  • Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical skills, proven through coursework or previous experience.
  • Interest in data privacy, AI governance, and emerging legal trends

Nice To Haves

  • Specialized Certification or Advanced Coursework: Completion of certification programs (e.g., CIPP/US or CIPM) or advanced coursework in high-demand legal fields like Privacy, Intellectual Property (IP), Cybersecurity, or Contract Drafting.
  • Prior In-House or Tech Sector Exposure: Previous experience, such as a shadowing program, internship, or clinic, working within an in-house legal department, especially in the technology or high-growth sector.
  • Exceptional Organizational Skills: Demonstrated ability to maintain meticulous attention to detail while managing multiple priorities and delivering consistently high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Regulatory Research and Analysis: Conduct timely research and summarize key findings on emerging global privacy regulations (e.g., CCPA, GDPR) and evolving case law, providing concise legal briefings to the Legal team to inform immediate compliance strategies.
  • Policy and Document Drafting Support: Assist in drafting and revising internal privacy policies, data processing agreements, and external terms of service, ensuring accuracy and alignment with corporate and regulatory standards.
  • Assist with ongoing efforts to operationalize privacy at Zscaler, including data mapping projects, privacy impact assessments, and other compliance activities that strengthen our privacy program
  • Learn about product counseling at Zscaler and help develop resources related to our product review process
