About The Position

CME Group is currently looking for a Legal Department summer intern to join our Chicago office. This candidate will assist the Legal Department with day-to-day activities in support of ongoing legal matters. You will handle legal analysis and research tasks across a wide range of subject matter areas, including commercial contracts, intellectual property, and complex regulatory projects.

Requirements

Strong command of Google Workspace tools.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex legal concepts into actionable business advice.
A high degree of accuracy in proofreading and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive, confidential information with the utmost professional integrity.
Currently pursuing a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school (1L or 2L preferred).
Candidates must be local to Chicago and available to work in-person/hybrid as required by department policy.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience or a demonstrated interest in financial markets, derivatives, or corporate law is a significant plus.

Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive research on federal and state regulations (including CFTC and SEC compliance), case law, and industry trends to support the drafting of legal memoranda.
Assist in the initial review, redlining, and organization of commercial agreements, non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), and vendor contracts.
Support the team in preparing and organizing materials for regulatory submissions and internal compliance audits.
Maintain legal databases and tracking systems for intellectual property filings, litigation hold notices, or corporate governance documents.
Attend internal meetings and take concise minutes to help coordinate legal strategy across different business units.
