About The Position

Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta (Advancing Justice-Atlanta) is seeking applications for sponsorship of two-year Skadden and Equal Justice Works Fellowships, as well as other externally-funded legal fellowships, for Fall 2027. These fellowships offer a unique opportunity to gain meaningful experience in critical aspects of Advancing Justice-Atlanta’s diverse docket, focusing on immigrant rights and a multiracial democracy. The organization, founded in 2010, is part of the Asian Americans Advancing Justice affiliation and focuses on Policy Advocacy, Civic Engagement & Organizing, Impact Litigation, and Legal Services. The Legal Services Department provides direct immigration legal services to low-income and underserved immigrants across Georgia, covering a broad range of relief including naturalization, DACA renewals, detention release advocacy, removal defense, and humanitarian protections. They also conduct legal application assistance clinics, Know-Your-Rights workshops, and community educational programming. The Impact Litigation work involves strategic litigation, civil rights enforcement, and coalition leadership, focusing on immigrant justice and voting rights to challenge discriminatory laws and policies and drive systemic change.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice law in Georgia or eligible to sit for the July 2027 bar examination.
  • Strong and demonstrated commitment to civil rights and work with immigrant communities.
  • Creative approach to civil rights work and ability to take initiative during project development and implementation.
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills (demonstrated through writing samples, internship/clinical experience, and academic record).
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff and develop positive relationships with diverse clients and community organizations.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills in legal and non-legal settings.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Serve at the frontlines of direct legal services and impact litigation.
  • Practice in immigration, federal court, or before administrative bodies, or a combination thereof.
  • Develop and implement a fellowship project proposal in collaboration with Advancing Justice-Atlanta.
