As a Legal Counsel - Employment Law, you will be central to supporting one of the fastest-growing legal technology companies globally. You will collaborate closely with the People Team, providing advice on a wide range of employment matters to enable Legora's rapid and robust scaling. This role demands a high degree of independence, the ability to operate across multiple time zones, and close partnership with global stakeholders, becoming integral to Legora’s long-term employment strategy. The legal function at Legora is a forward-deployed, AI-first team operating across various jurisdictions and legal disciplines, acting as trusted partners with a focus on product development, operations, and commercial initiatives. Beyond strong legal judgment, the team values curiosity, problem-solving, and a proactive, pragmatic approach to redefining legal work globally.

Requirements

  • A J.D. and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
  • 7+ years of experience at a top-tier law firm and as in-house counsel, with primary focus on, or strong exposure to, employment and labor law.
  • Strong understanding of US employment law is required.
  • Strong legal judgment with the confidence to advise senior stakeholders independently.
  • You are commercially minded and solutions-oriented — you focus on enabling the business while appropriately managing risk.
  • You communicate complex legal issues clearly and translate them into practical, actionable advice.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, entrepreneurial environment and are comfortable operating with autonomy.
  • You are excited about the potential of technology to transform the legal industry. You have a keen interest in AI and legal tech, and you are eager to learn and apply these tools in real-world settings.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a strategic legal partner to the business, working closely with senior stakeholders in People, Operations, and Leadership on global employment matters.
  • Lead the drafting, review, and implementation of employment agreements, policies, and frameworks across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Advise on complex employment matters including hiring, terminations, restructurings, performance management, employee relations, and cross-border workforce issues.
  • Provide commercially pragmatic advice on employment risk, ensuring compliance without slowing business growth or operational velocity.
  • Support international expansion by assessing employment law implications in new markets and coordinating with external counsel where required.
  • Develop scalable, repeatable employment frameworks, templates, and internal guidelines to enable efficient and compliant global hiring.
  • Advise on collective employment issues, labor relations, employee representative structures, and local regulatory obligations where applicable.
  • Partner with the People Team to ensure employment practices reflect Legora’s values while meeting legal and regulatory standards.
  • Contribute to governance, compliance, and risk mitigation initiatives in a fast-scaling international environment.
