About The Position

The Company is seeking a Legal Counsel professional to join its Legal Department. Reporting to a Senior Director or Director, Legal Counsel, you will primarily provide commercial contracting and advisory support to the Company’s technology, e-commerce, loyalty, and retail media business lines. Loblaw has adopted a hybrid working model. For this position, you are required to work a minimum of four days per week in one of three offices (downtown Toronto, North York, or Brampton) with a minimum of one day a week in the Brampton head office.

Requirements

  • 2-7 years of commercial contracting experience in an in-house legal department or a large law firm
  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in technology as it relates to commercial transactions and agreements – including SaaS arrangements, software license agreements, and data protection terms – is an asset
  • Further experience in e-commerce, loyalty programs, digital advertising, privacy, security, and/or AI is an additional asset
  • Strong business acumen, analytical, communication and presentation competencies
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multiple stakeholders, facilitate consensus, and build relationships
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and proactive with the ability to work in a collaborative, dynamic, and fast-paced team environment

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements
  • Provide the business with counsel on strategic initiatives, projects, and transactions, including identifying risks and proposing practical solutions/mitigation tactics
  • Advise on a variety of matters including technology, privacy, security, and artificial intelligence
  • Work closely with other members of the Legal team, procurement and various risk functions to continuously improve templates, processes, and create efficiencies
  • Participate in the development and delivery of annual team objectives
  • Be an active participant within the Legal team, including participation in committees of interest
  • Personally demonstrate and foster within the Legal department a culture of excellence that reflects Loblaw values
