About The Position

The Legal Coordinator - Central position is a national support role within ALTO's Operations Excellence team, reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Operations. This role provides centralized virtual support to Legal Teams across ALTO markets, including case intake, virtual court coverage, client communication, evidence management, law enforcement coordination, and other legal administrative needs. The position also serves as a flexible traveling coverage resource for markets experiencing staffing vacancies or temporary operational needs, providing in-person support across both Legal and Field Operations. The role requires strong organization, adaptability, communication skills, and the ability to transition between remote support and hands-on market coverage based on business needs. Travel is a required component of this position.

Requirements

  • 1+ years' experience as a Paralegal, Legal Coordinator, Legal Assistant, or equivalent experience in a prosecutor's office, criminal defense practice, court clerk role, or related legal environment.
  • Working knowledge of criminal court procedure, including misdemeanor and felony processing, first appearances, continuances, and restitution.
  • Excellent written communication skills; a significant portion of client, court, and law enforcement interaction may be conducted in writing.
  • Strong organizational and document management skills with high attention to detail.
  • Must be able to prioritize and accomplish objectives in a timely manner while supporting multiple markets and recurring deadlines.
  • Proficiency using computers, computer databases, and Microsoft Office.
  • Comfort conducting professional, on-camera appearances via Zoom and similar virtual platforms.
  • Ability to manage recurring court calendars and deadlines across multiple U.S. time zones, including occasional early court calendars.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently in a fully remote, distributed team environment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to provide both Legal and Field Operations coverage based on business needs.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 3 weeks per month when needed to support market vacancies and operational coverage needs.
  • Strong English communication skills are required.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation, or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to perform job-related essential functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency is preferred.
  • Paralegal Certificate and/or Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
  • Asset Protection experience is beneficial but not required; related retail, investigative, or law enforcement experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Attends virtual court proceedings to provide consistent coverage when Legal Team Members are prioritizing other casework.
  • Manages centralized case intake by monitoring client submissions for new offenders and incidents, downloading case profiles, creating cases in Alliance, and distributing assignments to the appropriate local Legal Team Member.
  • Partners remotely with law enforcement officers and detectives to aggregate qualifying incidents and support the tracking of repeat offenders across store locations and jurisdictions.
  • Requests, collects, and organizes evidence and restitution documentation from client partners; maintains complete, court-ready case files.
  • Sends initial and ongoing legal updates to clients within required timelines and keeps Alliance legal cases current so client-facing reporting remains accurate.
  • Provides administrative and operational support to Legal Teams across multiple markets based on workload and business needs, at the direction of the Operations Excellence team.
  • Tracks and reports weekly on task volume, turnaround times, and outcomes across supported markets.
  • Supports temporary remote coverage needs in additional markets as bandwidth allows.
  • Serves as a national traveling coverage resource for markets experiencing Legal or Field Operations vacancies, staffing gaps, or temporary operational needs.
  • Travels to assigned markets to provide in-person legal support, which may include court attendance, case follow-up, law enforcement and prosecutor engagement, client communication, and other responsibilities normally supported by local Legal Team Members.
  • Provides temporary Field Operations support as needed, including retail client visits, store-team engagement, ALTO program support, documentation, and other field responsibilities based on the needs of the assigned market.
  • Partners with local and national Operations leadership to understand market priorities and maintain continuity of ALTO services during temporary coverage assignments.
  • Maintains flexibility to shift between centralized Legal support, Field Operations support, and traveling market coverage as organizational needs change.
  • Other legal, operational, and broader business responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Vice President of Operations.
