About The Position

SGI Global is seeking a Legal Clerk to support the Victim-Witness Program at the United States Attorney's Office (USAO) for the District of New Mexico. The Legal Clerk will provide administrative and witness management support by coordinating witness travel, processing witness reimbursement vouchers, maintaining case-related records, and assisting Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) and Victim-Witness personnel throughout the federal judicial process.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with word processing and data entry/retrieval.
  • Ability to review and analyze information from multiple sources.
  • Ability to establish and maintain case or project files.
  • Ability to enter, retrieve, manipulate, transfer, compute, and print information from databases.
  • Ability to prepare management reports, correspondence, and other administrative documents using word processing software.
  • Ability to schedule appointments and coordinate activities.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries regarding case-related information and status.
  • Ability to obtain information from other agencies and organizations.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and perform analytical computations necessary to process data.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to deliver high-quality work under pressure.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the required Department of Justice background investigation.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and meet Department of Justice residency requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide witness management support before, during, and after trial proceedings.
  • Coordinate witness travel, lodging, and transportation arrangements.
  • Prepare travel authorizations, itineraries, travel forms, and lodging documentation for witnesses.
  • Serve as a point of contact for witnesses regarding travel logistics and scheduling.
  • Confirm witness appearance dates, travel arrangements, and logistical requirements prior to court appearances.
  • Coordinate with Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs), Legal Assistants, law enforcement personnel, hotels, transportation providers, and the U.S. Marshals Service regarding witness travel and support.
  • Process Fact Witness Vouchers (DOJ-3) and supporting documentation through USA Forms and applicable financial systems.
  • Maintain witness calendars and track active and pending witness appearances.
  • Prepare memorandums related to witness work or school absences for AUSA approval.
  • Assist with Government Travel Account (GTA) administration, documentation, reconciliations, and electronic recordkeeping.
  • Maintain electronic files, databases, and supporting documentation related to witness management activities.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding witness reimbursement status, travel arrangements, and voucher processing.
  • Prepare weekly activity reports detailing completed work and program activities.
  • Provide services in a victim-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive manner.
  • Perform other administrative and witness management support duties as assigned.
