About The Position

Segal McCambridge is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to join our Pittsburgh office and support a dynamic team of attorneys handling complex toxic tort, asbestos, and general liability litigation throughout Pennsylvania, with matters in West Virginia as well. This is an opportunity to take an active role in challenging, high-profile litigation while working alongside accomplished trial attorneys in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. You’ll provide essential support throughout the litigation lifecycle—from drafting and filing pleadings to coordinating discovery, managing critical deadlines, and assisting with trial preparation. Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
At least three years of experience as a legal assistant in a civil litigation setting.
Working knowledge of Pennsylvania state and federal court procedures, rules, and electronic filing and service systems.
Strong understanding of civil litigation processes and legal terminology.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing deadlines and work efficiently under pressure.
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in drafting, editing, formatting, and proofreading legal documents.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as Windows-based applications and internet research tools.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to follow instructions, exercise sound judgment, and work independently.
A professional approach to handling confidential information and sensitive client matters.

Responsibilities

Prepare and finalize legal documents: Draft, edit, format, proofread, and finalize correspondence, memoranda, pleadings, discovery materials, motions, briefs, and other litigation documents.
Manage court filings: File and serve documents in Pennsylvania state and federal courts, ensuring compliance with applicable court rules, procedures, and deadlines.
Coordinate litigation activities: Maintain attorney calendars, track critical deadlines, and schedule court appearances, depositions, meetings, and other case-related events.
Support discovery and case management: Open new matters, maintain organized electronic and physical files, manage case documents, and assist with the preparation and coordination of discovery.
Assist with trial preparation: Organize exhibits, coordinate witness schedules, assemble materials, and prepare trial-related documents to help attorneys prepare for hearings and trials.
Communicate professionally: Serve as a point of contact with courts, opposing counsel, clients, vendors, and other parties, providing timely and professional communication.
Handle administrative and financial tasks: Process vendor invoices, prepare check requests and expense reimbursement forms, and enter attorney time records accurately and promptly.
Coordinate logistics: Arrange attorney travel, schedule appointments, and coordinate meetings, depositions, and other litigation-related activities.
Contribute to team success: Collaborate with attorneys and colleagues, anticipate needs, and provide dependable support in a fast-paced litigation practice.
Provide general office support: Assist with filing, scanning, copying, telephone coverage, office supplies, and other administrative responsibilities as needed.
