About The Position

Schiller DuCanto & Fleck LLP, a nationally respected Family Law Firm with a focus on high-net-worth clients, complex litigation, and mediation, seeks a dedicated full-time Legal Assistant with 3-5 years of experience to join our Chicago office. This is a hybrid position: four (4) days in the office and one (1) day remote per week. Our ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-oriented person with strong organizational skills who thrives on working collaboratively with attorneys and paralegals to serve client needs. They can support multiple attorneys in preparation for hearings, depositions, and trials. They take initiative and interact with all levels of management and staff with tact and diplomacy. This position requires excellent oral and written communication skills, self-motivation, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. We are looking for someone who enjoys learning and who takes pride in achieving their goals. This position is part of a Legal Assistant team that provides back-up coverage for each other when time off is taken and when special projects are assigned. Back-up coverage assignments may be short-term or for a single day.

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of legal experience or professional services experience required
  • Experience in a litigation practice with a preference for family law experience
  • Knowledge of legal documents, terminology, regulations, and court systems and procedures in Cook, DuPage, Lake, and Will County
  • Proficiency with MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe
  • Familiarity with legal technology such as court-filing systems, transcription software, and dictation software
  • Outstanding time-management and communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills when dealing with a diverse pool of people
  • Deep commitment to confidentiality, discretion, and good judgment
  • Strong proofreading and grammar skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong work ethic and dependability as a team player

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of document management software systems is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to multiple attorneys
  • Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and attorneys
  • Answer telephones and perform initial screen of clients
  • Create, revise, proofread, and format legal documents, spreadsheets, and presentations
  • Handle confidential documents with discretion
  • E-file court documents
  • Manage attorney calendars and docket dates, sending reminders of upcoming deadlines
  • Enter attorney time into billing software
  • Maintain updated case lists and manage contacts
  • Utilize document management system for client files and correspondence
  • Process attorney expense reimbursement requests
  • Maintain records of attorney CLE compliance
  • Other duties and projects as assigned
