About The Position

At The Nemecek Firm, we believe every person deserves skilled legal representation and to be treated with dignity throughout the immigration process. We help individuals, families, and businesses throughout the United States and abroad navigate complex immigration matters. Our work includes removal defense, asylum, family immigration, employment immigration, naturalization, and corporate immigration compliance. We are seeking an organized and compassionate Immigration Legal Assistant to support our attorneys and help manage immigration matters from intake through filing and follow up. This is a client facing position focused on gathering and organizing information, preparing legal documents, tracking deadlines, and helping ensure cases move forward efficiently.

Requirements

  • Organized, accurate, and attentive to detail.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally by phone and in writing.
  • Can work compassionately and respectfully with clients from different backgrounds.
  • Can manage multiple cases, deadlines, client communications, and competing priorities.
  • Exercise good judgment, document your work, and recognize when a question or concern should be escalated.
  • Can work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys and other Firm associates.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and comfortable learning new applications or systems.
  • Use technology responsibly while protecting confidential information.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in immigration law, a law firm, or another legal support position is helpful but not required.
  • Experience preparing immigration forms, working with government agencies, or using legal case management systems is also helpful.
  • Fluent in a language other than English will receive additional consideration, although foreign language fluency is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys with preparing immigration petitions, applications, forms, and supporting documentation.
  • Communicate with clients to collect information and documents needed for their cases.
  • Provide clients with case updates and respond to questions as directed by the attorney.
  • Organize and maintain complete and accurate electronic and physical client files.
  • Track case deadlines, appointments, filings, hearings, and other important dates.
  • Assist with correspondence involving USCIS, EOIR, the Department of State, and other government agencies.
  • Review forms and supporting documents for completeness, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Enter and maintain case information in the Firm’s case management system.
  • Assist with legal research and gathering case related information.
  • Translate documents or assist with client communications when qualified and needed.
  • Support scheduling, data entry, correspondence, and other administrative responsibilities.
  • Work closely with attorneys and other Firm associates to keep cases organized and moving forward.
