About The Position

Provides administrative legal support to Administrative Law Judges (ALJs) within the Appellate Services Administration (ASA) for the Department of Economic Security (DES). Reviews and verifies incoming appeals for approximately 45 DES programs, including benefit eligibility, overpayments, licensing, certification, and claimant fraud. Prepares and organizes hearing exhibits and packets, ensuring accurate documentation for use in scheduled hearings. Analyzes legal issues, jurisdiction, and timeliness of appeals by reviewing case documentation, images, and paper files. Schedules hearings for ALJs and processes party requests such as postponements and withdrawals. Maintains confidential case files (both paper and electronic) and ensures compliance with Federal and State noticing deadlines. Assists ALJs with case research and interprets administrative procedures and regulatory guidelines. Enters and manages case notes and documentation in multiple case management systems and legal repositories. Uploads legal decisions and dispositions for departmental action and escalates cases to the Board of Appeals as necessary. Provides customer service and support to internal and external stakeholders, including handling elevated docket calls. Adapts to evolving procedures, ensures accuracy and speed in repetitive detail-oriented work, and upholds confidentiality standards. Utilizes computer applications such as Google Apps (Gmail, Docs, Sheets), Adobe Acrobat, and various case management systems. Performs duties with minimal supervision, effectively multitasking and prioritizing in a fast-paced legal environment.
