About The Position

The Gould School of Law at USC is seeking applications for a full-time, one-year fixed-term Legal Assistant position with the USC Gould School of Law Immigration Clinic. This position may be extended annually, contingent on funding. The Legal Assistant will provide essential support to the clinic's faculty, attorneys, and students, managing case files, maintaining calendars, preparing funder reports, and assisting with immigration application completion. The role also involves training and supervising undergraduate administrative workers and conducting intake interviews. Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage and prioritize multiple projects and case work.
  • Ability to interact and engage with a wide range of persons from diverse ethnic, cultural, and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to plan, organize and execute activities to meet project objectives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and data management systems.
  • Minimum Education: High school or equivalent.
  • Minimum Experience: 2 years.
  • Minimum Skills: Legal secretarial experience/legal terminology/knowledge of court procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in providing leadership and direction for day-to-day project operations and administrative activities.
  • Experience working on immigration issues.
  • Fluency in Spanish (strongly preferred).
  • Preferred Education: Specialized/technical training.
  • Preferred Experience: 3 years.

Responsibilities

  • Support Clinic faculty, attorneys, and clinical law students.
  • Maintain case management database and master calendars.
  • Prepare reports to funders.
  • Manage cases.
  • Train and supervise undergraduate student administrative workers.
  • Conduct intake and screening interviews.
  • Assist with completion of immigration applications.
  • Monitor and implement funding contracts from different funders (governmental and non-governmental).
  • Act as the main administrative liaison between funders, Clinic staff, and USC budget office.
  • Ensure compliance with grant terms, including data capture, reporting, case opening and closing, and invoicing.
