About The Position

This role is responsible for supporting the Legal team’s Merchandising and Marketing practice through legal and factual research, coordination of legal intake, preparation of attorney-ready summaries and draft materials, and facilitation of communications with internal business partners, outside parties, and regulatory agencies. Under the supervision of counsel, this role partners closely with Merchandising, Marketing, Product Development, and other internal stakeholders to support a high volume of legal matters and to develop organized, accurate, and timely information for legal review and business decision-making.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience in a corporate environment or Licensing/Compliance position.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Legal Studies, Paralegal Studies, or related field is preferred.
  • Paralegal certification or equivalent legal support training is a plus.
  • Any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered.

  • Retail experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review contracts, product, merchandising, marketing, promotional, labeling, packaging, and vendor-related materials to identify issues requiring attorney review and gather needed for legal analysis.
  • Coordinate legal intake with internal business partners, vendors, agencies, and other stakeholders, including collecting supporting materials and facilitating attorney review of vendor onboarding, promotions, advertising, intellectual property, and related business matters.
  • Monitor and research legal and regulatory developments, affecting merchandising, marketing, promotions, advertising, intellectual property, and related commercial matters, and prepare concise summaries for attorney review.
  • Assist attorneys in identifying legal and business risks by comparing proposed contract revisions, business requests, and supporting materials against company positions, prior drafts, playbooks, and attorney guidance, and escalate material deviations or unresolved issues for review.
  • Collect, organize, verify, and maintain matter-related facts, contract versions, issue lists, stakeholder comments, deadlines, deliverables, approvals, and supporting documentation to ensure complete and accurate matter files for attorney review.
  • Prepare first drafts and revised drafts of routine legal documents and communications, including correspondence, emails, summaries, redlines, trackers, agency communications, and other materials for attorney review and approval.
  • Respond to routine inquiries regarding legal process, matter status, requested documentation, and next steps, and communicate attorney-approved guidance and requests in a clear and professional manner, coordinating with attorneys on matters involving legal interpretation, escalations, disputes, or agency communications.
  • Manage retention of legal documents and confidential materials in accordance with Company policies and Legal Department practices, and support the maintenance and improvement of related workflows, templates, trackers, and other standard resources.
  • Support internal business partners by helping clarify legal process, documentation needs, and attorney requests, and by communicating attorney-approved guidance and next steps in a clear and professional manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Legal team’s Merchandising and Marketing practice.
