About The Position

The Legal Analyst role with the Office of Chief Counsel offers an exciting chance to support important legal work for the Department of Education. This position allows you to learn core legal skills while helping attorneys prepare cases and review information. You will work with sensitive matters and play a key part in organizing documents and research. Requirements

  • Five years of legal research and analysis experience including three years at the professional level, and an associate’s degree; or Three years of professional experience in legal research and analysis, and a bachelor’s degree; or A Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school; or An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes two years of professional experience in legal research and analysis.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze allegations, gather facts, and determine whether submitted complaints meet required standards
  • Examine laws, policies, and regulations to support case preparation
  • Draft materials, organize case files, and assist attorneys with hearing documentation
  • Contact schools and courts to obtain records and verify case details
  • Update tracking systems and ensure case information is accurate and complete
  • Assist with phone coverage, mail processing, and special legal projects
