About The Position

The Department of Art, Media, and Design at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2026 to teach AMD 380-10: Graphic Design 2 – Intermediate Visual Communication Studio. This is an intermediate studio course that meets on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. The course builds upon foundational principles of visual communication and introduces students to more structured conceptual thinking, typographic systems, and multi-platform design applications. Students engage in research-driven design processes, iterative development, critique, and craft-based production while strengthening professional workflows and presentation skills. Emphasis is placed on developing cohesive visual systems across formats, understanding audience engagement, and refining design decisions for clarity, usability, and meaning. The course prepares students for upper-division studio work through increased rigor in methodology, production standards, and conceptual development. Course activities include lectures, demonstrations, screenings, discussions, critiques, weekly exercises, and project-based studio work.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in graphic design or closely related field
  • Current portfolio of graphic design or related work
  • Teaching experience at the college level or equivalent
  • Must be able to work in the State of California.
