About The Position

The Department of Theatre, Film, and Media Arts seeks a Lecturer to teach THEATRE 3411 Introduction to Scenic Design in Spring 2027. THEATRE 3411 Introduction to Scenic Design introduces students to basic design elements for the stage including research, sketching, color theory, model building, drafting and stagecraft. In addition to teaching, the Lecturer prepares syllabi and course materials for assigned courses, holds office hours, grades assignments and submits grades by deadlines, and communicates regularly with students. Course meetings are in-person for 165 minutes/week; specific meeting times vary by assignment.

Requirements

  • Master of Fine Arts degree in theatre or other comparable graduate degree.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and organizing instruction in ways which maximize student learning
  • Meeting scheduled classes and office hours in accordance with university policy
  • Ensuring curriculum implementation and course preparation in accordance with department standards
  • Preparing homework and exams, evaluating, and returning student work in a timely manner to promote learning
  • Maintaining accurate records of students’ progress and submitting final grade roster in accordance with established university deadlines
  • Support students’ understanding of basic design elements for the stage and/or scene painting techniques.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of student information in accordance with FERPA
