About The Position

The University of San Diego's Physics and Biophysics Department is seeking applications for a part-time instructor for several courses for the Fall 2026 semester, to be taught in-person. The department offers BS and BA degrees in Physics and Biophysics, with a mission to foster a deep understanding of nature, develop problem-solving skills, and encourage collaborative research. Requirements

  • MS in Physics or a closely related field (e.g., Applied Physics) completed before August 2026.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
  • Official education transcripts for degree verification.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in Physics.
  • College-level teaching experience beyond the teaching assistant level.

Responsibilities

  • Teach General Physics II (algebra-based introductory physics lecture for life science majors, covering electricity and magnetism, light, and modern physics).
  • Teach General Physics II Lab (companion lab to General Physics II, introducing experimental physics concepts and techniques).
  • Teach General Physics I Lab (companion lab to General Physics I, introducing experimental physics concepts and techniques).
  • Teach Introduction to Electricity and Magnetism Lab (companion lab to the second-semester, calculus-based introductory physics course, introducing experimental physics concepts and techniques).
  • Hold 1.5 hours of in-person office hours per course taught.
