About The Position

The Department of Data Analytics and Information Systems (DAIS) in the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University invites applications for a non-tenure-track, nine-month Lecturer or Senior Lecturer (4-4 teaching load) position, with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2026. The appointment rank will be determined based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience. This position is based on the Logan campus and primarily involves in-person instruction. This role leads a required, Communication-Intensive (CI) undergraduate course in Professional Communication with AI. The course prepares business students to communicate, think, and lead in an AI-augmented workplace. The position centers on teaching excellence, continuous course innovation, and equipping students with durable communication skills for a data-centric, AI-forward business environment. The ideal candidate sees AI not as a replacement for human communication skills but as a tool that elevates critical thinking, clarity, and professional judgment. Lecturers are recognized as essential faculty members within the DAIS Department and participate in department service, curriculum development, and governance activities. Senior Lecturers are recognized as key faculty members within the department and take on additional leadership in curriculum and instructional development, coordination across course sections, and evaluation of course effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Business Communication, Communication Studies, Business Administration, Management, Marketing, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching business communication, professional writing, or related subjects.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and content development skills.
  • Demonstrated experience or evidence of application in exploring and applying generative AI to business communication and professional workflows.
  • Strong understanding of audience-centered communication and organizational decision-making.
  • Five or more years of successful full-time teaching experience in higher education (Senior Lecturer only).
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching business communication, professional writing, or related subjects, with evidence of leadership in curriculum or instructional development (Senior Lecturer only).
  • Demonstrated experience applying generative AI to business communication and professional workflows, including guiding or mentoring colleagues in effective AI integration (Senior Lecturer only).

Nice To Haves

  • Industry experience in professional communication, consulting, management, or related fields.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and continually refine a required undergraduate course in Professional Communication with AI, integrating advanced business writing, persuasion, research, and AI-enabled workflows.
  • Teach advanced business writing and editing, emphasizing clarity, concision, structure, tone, precision, and audience adaptation.
  • Coach students in persuasive written, oral, and visual communication.
  • Teach and model effective teamwork and professional collaboration, including communication in team-based and AI-supported environments.
  • Design learning experiences that help students use generative AI strategically and ethically in professional work.
  • Teach students how to structure prompts, refine AI outputs, critically evaluate AI-generated content, integrate credible business research, and document AI use responsibly.
  • Guide students in producing executive-style deliverables, research briefs, presentations, and career materials.
  • Incorporate experiential learning elements that mirror real-world business communication.
  • Engage in ongoing course research and development to keep pace with emerging AI tools, communication technologies, and employer expectations.
  • Provide rigorous, developmental feedback on student work; foster collaboration within the classroom; participate in department and university service; and contribute to a collegial, student-centered academic environment.
  • Introduce students to how AI agents can be designed and applied to support and automate business processes (Senior Lecturer only).
  • Contribute to curriculum and instructional development across course sections, including collaborating with regular and adjunct instructors on shared materials, assignments, and assessment practices (Senior Lecturer only).
  • Evaluate course effectiveness through student learning outcomes, feedback, and assessment data, and use those findings to guide ongoing improvements to course design and delivery (Senior Lecturer only).
  • Engage in ongoing research and development to stay current with rapidly evolving AI tools, capabilities, and communication technologies, and proactively initiate updates to course content, assignments, and materials to keep the course aligned with employer expectations and the changing AI landscape (Senior Lecturer only).
