About The Position

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for Part-Time Lecturer positions. Cal Poly Pomona is one of three polytechnic universities in the 22-campus California State University system, known for its integrative experiential learning education, learn-by-doing approach, and Teacher Scholar Model. The university has nearly 30,000 students and over 1,400 faculty, offering a variety of degree programs. The campus is a scenic 1,400-acre site, historically the winter ranch of W.K. Kellogg, and acknowledges its location on the territorial and homelands of the Tongva and Tataavium people. The College of Science's mission is to educate, mentor, and inspire students through scientific inquiry and hands-on learning, offering 15 undergraduate and six Master’s degrees across seven academic departments. It has approximately 150 full-time faculty, 40 staff, and 4,400 active majors, and is the largest recipient of extramural grant funding on campus. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has over 29 full-time faculty, offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics and statistics, serving over 500 undergraduate majors, 65 graduate students, and 5,000 students each semester. The department seeks faculty who can thrive and contribute meaningfully in an environment with a diverse student body, including over 50% from underrepresented groups and approximately 40% first-generation college students. The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, with positions filled as needed based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice, with terms starting in late August (Fall) and mid-January (Spring), and potential opportunities for Summer Sessions. The department welcomes experienced and student-centered individuals to teach in various subject areas.

Requirements

  • A masters or doctoral degree in mathematics, statistics or a closely related field.
  • Qualifying degree must be completed by August 1, 2025.
  • Evidence demonstrating recent teaching excellence must be provided in your application.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned division courses in the department’s curriculum and serve weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load.
