Temporary Faculty Pool Department of Chemical and Materials College of Engineering The Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for its Part-Time Lecturer pool for part-time teaching appointments. About Cal Poly Pomona Pomona is one of three polytechnic universities in the 22-campus California State University system and among 12 such institutions nationwide. Since its founding in 1938, Cal Poly Pomona students participate in an integrative experiential learning education that is inclusive, relevant, and values diverse perspectives and experiences. With a variety of degree programs in the arts, humanities, sciences, engineering, and professional disciplines, the university is well known for its learn- by-doing approach and Teacher Scholar Model. The university is noted for its scenic and historic 1,400-acre campus, which was once the winter ranch of cereal magnate W.K. Kellogg. We acknowledge that Cal Poly Pomona resides on the territorial and homelands of the Tongva and Tataavium people who are the traditional land caretakers of Tovaangar. The university’s nearly 30,000 students are taught and mentored by the campus’s more than 1,400 faculty as part of 54 baccalaureate and 29 master’s degree programs, 11 credential and certificate programs, and a doctorate in educational leadership. About the College of Engineering The College of Engineering is a recognized leader in undergraduate engineering education and consistently ranks high nationally by the U.S. News & World Report among state-supported undergraduate engineering programs in non-doctorate-granting institutions. We are the largest college on campus and admissions is selective. We enroll approximately 7,000+ undergraduate students and graduate approximately 1000+ every year. We enroll approximately 400+ graduate students and graduate approximately 100 every year. The college offers ten bachelor’s degrees in engineering, two bachelor’s degrees in engineering technology, and six engineering master’s degrees. Our undergraduate student body is very diverse with 51 percent from underrepresented groups and nearly 41 percent of our recent graduates are first-generation and low-income. The college practices a learn-by-doing education philosophy linking theory to practice. Students participate in real-world engineering problem-solving through internships, senior class projects, and senior capstone design experiences. We graduate day-one professionals that are highly sought after by industry. Teaching, student learning, and student success are our major priorities, and active research and scholarly activities are expected of faculty. To support these priorities, 62% of our instructional spaces are devoted to laboratories. Faculty embrace the teacher-scholar model that integrates the commitment to excellent teaching with ongoing scholarly engagement to strengthen and support both faculty and students. Applied, basic, and/or pedagogical research are valued, and faculty have access to many internal teaching and research grant opportunities. About the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering Offers a BS in Chemical Engineering and a BS in Materials Engineering, serving approximately 300+ students. The department also offers an MS in Materials (MSMTE) degree. In addition, the department offers a Minor in Materials Engineering. The department also offers service courses for other majors within the college. The department actively pursues outcomes-based assessment to evaluate its effectiveness in promoting student learning and the success of its graduates. The department has established strong ties with local industry, and its Industry Action Council is very active in supporting the programs.
