Cal Poly Pomona is a polytechnic university in the 22-campus California State University system, founded in 1938, known for its integrative experiential learning, Teacher Scholar Model, and diverse degree programs. It serves nearly 30,000 students with over 1,400 faculty across 54 baccalaureate, 29 master’s, 11 credential/certificate programs, and a doctorate in educational leadership. The university acknowledges its location on the territorial and homelands of the Tongva and Tataavium people. The College of Education and Integrative Studies (CEIS) is a learning community focused on meeting student needs, educating leaders, and committed to diversity, ethics, social justice, and lifelong learning, emphasizing innovation, integrative thinking, reflective practice, collaborative action, and learning by doing. CEIS has 1,376 students and 41 faculty. The Department of Liberal Studies (LS) is one of two undergraduate departments in CEIS, encompassing the LS Program and Interdisciplinary General Education Program (IGE). Both programs highlight experiential learning, interdisciplinarity, liberal education tenets, and social justice and equity. The LS Program offers an undergraduate degree with an elementary education preparation option (K-8 Pre-Credential) and an Interdisciplinary Studies option for careers in various sectors including government, higher education, non-profit, corporate, social work, counseling, law, and health. The IGE program is a student-centered, discussion-based, cohort-based pathway for GE courses, exploring human experience across disciplines, fostering connective ability, and emphasizing community learning, writing, and applied activities. This temporary faculty pool is continuously open, with positions filled based on student enrollment and funding, potentially requiring short-notice availability. The Fall term runs from late August to mid-December, and the Spring term from mid-January to mid-May, with Summer Sessions also possible. The LS Department, with its multidisciplinary faculty, provides interdisciplinary education for undergraduate teacher candidates and students pursuing liberal arts-based degrees for future educational paths or careers. Its pedagogy is student-centered and experiential, modeling the university’s inclusive polytechnic identity. Instruction focuses on developing students’ proficiencies in critical thinking and synthesizing knowledge from arts, humanities, social, and natural sciences to understand complex global issues, particularly for elementary education teachers’ intellectual and subject-matter preparation, and in general education. The position requires undergraduate teaching experience and the ability to teach critical thinking in an interdisciplinary context. The department values candidates who effectively address inclusivity and equity issues in the college classroom, teach socially diverse students, and incorporate critical approaches to artificial intelligence (AI) to facilitate student career development through real-world connections. Specializations of interest include the arts, humanities, and social science disciplines, with particular interest in writing and composition; ancient, medieval, and/or early modern history and culture (globally conceived); cultural history; art and visual culture; myth/literature; and American environmental history.
