The University of Florida Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies invites applications for a nine-month, full-time Lecturer/Instructional Professor, to begin August 16, 2027. While this is a non-tenure accruing position, appointments are typically renewed annually, and there are opportunities for promotion within the Lecturer series. We seek a candidate with a strong record of teaching health and health disparities courses in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies. In addition, the successful candidate will have experience in teaching effectively in face-to-face and fully online modalities, teaching larger enrollment courses (60 to 100 seats), and mentoring graduate students as teaching assistants in such courses. Applicants should be prepared to teach three undergraduate courses per semester, including Introduction to Health Disparities and other courses based on Department needs. Applicants should be trained in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies and have a strong record of excellence in teaching and service in a Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies program/department. The candidate is expected to add to the Department’s curricular strengths in health and health disparities, with teaching responsibilities that contribute to the major’s specialization in health equity and the popular minor in health disparities and society. In addition, the candidate is expected to teach courses that contribute to the Department’s core and elective curriculum for the major and cross-disciplinary curricula (e.g., UF Quest, certificates, minors). Candidates with expertise in ecofeminism, disability studies, science studies, rural health, the U.S. South, gender and violence, or cultural studies of wellness are especially encouraged to apply. The candidate should be prepared to advance the Department and College’s focus on experiential learning through mentoring students in undergraduate research and in programs such as CLAS University Scholars, and Beyond120. In addition to teaching, this position requires effective participation in Department duties, including committee work, student advising, ongoing training in pedagogy, and curriculum development. The candidate is expected to engage actively in the life and success of the Department and the College. The Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies has strong academic programs that serve 600+ undergraduate majors and minors, MA, and graduate and undergraduate certificate students.
