About The Position

The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures (ALC) at the University of Michigan, invite applications for a LEO Lecturer I – Urdu and Punjabi Language for the Fall 2026 Term. The successful candidate will teach courses at any assigned level of Urdu and/or Punjabi language. This appointment is scheduled to begin on August 24, 2026. Terms and conditions for this position are subject to the provisions of a Collective Bargaining Agreement between the University of Michigan and the Lecturers’ Employee Organization.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field such as language pedagogy (in Urdu or Punjabi language preferred), second language acquisition, or linguistics.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Urdu, Punjabi, and English is required.

Nice To Haves

  • At least one year of experience teaching Urdu and/or Punjabi independently or worked as a teaching assistant at the college/university level in the US is preferred.
  • Familiarity with contemporary second language teaching methodologies.
  • Familiarity with instructional technologies.
  • Familiarity with heritage/non-heritage teaching.
  • Familiarity with curriculum development.
  • Typing skills in Urdu and Punjabi.
