About The Position

We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's student body as a Lecturer of Physics & Astronomy beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year. The successful applicant will be expected to teach lower and upper division undergraduate physics, astronomy, or physical science courses in traditional, hybrid, and online formats. Given that UTRGV is a distributed university, the faculty hired may be assigned to teach courses at different campuses. The position is a three-year appointment, renewable based on favorable annual evaluations. The standard teaching load is 12-15 contact hours per semester, depending on the level of service commitment assigned in a given academic year. Although the primary responsibilities of Lecturers will be in the areas of teaching, the faculty hired may be asked to perform service-related activities. Service to the university and the community is an integral part of UTRGV faculty members' responsibilities. The Department of Physics and Astronomy at UTRGV aspires for a Tier I excellence in research, teaching, and innovation to emerge as global leaders in experimental, theoretical, and computational physics, and to serve the regional, state and national community through dissemination of education and active professional engagement. Although not required, UTRGV faculty, including Lecturers, are encouraged to engage in research and scholarship.

Requirements

  • M.S. in Physics, Physical Science, Astronomy, or closely related field from an accredited university.
  • At least two years' experience in teaching physics/physical science/astronomy.
  • Demonstrated or evidence of potential for using technology effectively to foster students' learning and a strong commitment to inclusive teaching practices.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language.
  • Commitment to teaching excellence of physics and astronomy at high school and university levels.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience teaching at the University level is desirable, as well as ability to use technology to support teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrated ability or evidence of potential for implementing student-centered active teaching approaches in both face-to-face and remote/online teaching.
