About The Position

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at California State University, San Bernardino is seeking part-time lecturer applications from a diverse group of qualified individuals for both our San Bernardino Campus (SBC) as well as our Palm Desert Campus (PDC). The department is seeking experienced, well-organized, and student-centered individuals to teach in any of our physics, astronomy and materials science programs. Candidates must have at least a Master’s degree or specialized certification physics, astronomy or material science, or related discipline. Preference will be given to candidates who have prior teaching experience at the college or university level and who can furnish evidence of strong teaching. Candidates should demonstrate their ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first-generation college students. Preference will be given to those with experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment. Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience and those who bring professional capabilities. This is a pool of part-time lecturers for the department to draw on as necessary and all appointments are temporary. Staffing decisions are made on a rolling basis typically beginning a few months prior to the start of an academic term right up to the beginning of the academic term. We recommend submitting your application at least 4 months before the beginning of an academic term to be considered for available positions.

Requirements

  • Earned Master’s degrees in physics, astronomy, material science or related area are required.
  • In the case of teaching laboratory classes, a specialized certification may be acceptable.
  • We strongly encourage members of underrepresented groups to apply.

Nice To Haves

  • Evidence of scholarly activity, publication, and innovation is valued.
  • Evidence of exemplary undergraduate- and/or graduate level teaching and leadership experience at program level is preferred and should be noted in application.

Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will teach undergraduate lecture and laboratory courses in Physics, astronomy or materials science.
  • Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.
