About The Position

This is a part-time, temporary lecturer position for the Spring 2027 semester at Honolulu Community College. The role is part of a candidate pool for assignments as needed, contingent upon funding, performance, and staffing requirements. The position is non-tenurial and requires a commitment to community college principles and philosophy. Teaching assignments may include evenings, weekends, on-campus, off-campus at military bases, secondary education sites (high schools), and/or distance learning via the internet. This is not a remote position. Specific teaching fields may have openings only for classes on military bases or taught online. A Department of Defense security clearance is required for teaching on military bases, and background checks are required for Early College courses for DOE schools.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related field (Child Development, Human Development, Family Resources, Human Ecology, Elementary Education with a specialty in ECE, Early Childhood and Special Education (blended) Elementary and Early Childhood (Dual Preparation), and Curriculum Studies in Early Childhood Education); OR
  • Master's degree in any field and 15 credits in Early Childhood Education (ECE) related courses and 1 year of related work experience; OR
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related field (Child Development, Human Development, Family Resources, Human Ecology, Elementary Education with a specialty in ECE, Early Childhood and Special Education (blended) Elementary and Early Childhood (Dual Preparation), Social Science with Concentration in Early Childhood Education, and Curriculum Studies in Early Childhood Education) and 3 years of related work experience; OR
  • Bachelor's degree in any field and 15 credits in Early Childhood Education (ECE) related courses and 5 years of related work experience.

  • Graduate and undergraduate transcript(s) from a regionally accredited institution of higher education showing degree(s) and relevant coursework. Copies of official transcripts are acceptable; however, original official transcripts will be required at the time of hire. Academic record/grade summaries and diplomas will not be accepted.
  • Transcripts issued outside of the United States of America require a course-by-course analysis with an equivalency statement from an agency having membership with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. verifying the degree equivalency to that of an accredited institution within the USA. Expense of the evaluation shall be borne by the applicant.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses in the discipline.
  • Maintain at least one office hour per week for each class taught.
  • Provide instruction and guidance to meet student learning objectives.
  • Prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress.
  • Work under the supervision of the discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area.
  • Participate in student and peer evaluations and self-assessment of teaching effectiveness.
