About The Position

Democracy Prep is seeking a dedicated and flexible Leave Replacement Teacher who is committed to our mission of college success and authentic civic engagement. This role involves covering all aspects of a lead teacher's classes during their absence, which may include long-term or daily coverage across elementary, middle, or high school settings. The ideal candidate is a self-reflective educator passionate about antiracism, diversity, equity, and inclusion, capable of building strong relationships with scholars and adapting to different content areas and school systems. You will play a crucial role in maintaining a classroom culture of high expectations and high support, planning and implementing curriculum, utilizing assessment data, and fostering positive relationships with scholars, families, and colleagues. Continuous professional growth is supported through coaching and development, and you will contribute to the social-emotional well-being of scholars by cultivating a positive classroom environment and partnering with the scholar support team. During long-term assignments, you will also participate in whole-school events and duties as assigned by school leadership.

  • A flexible teacher comfortable in multiple content areas, able to build relationships quickly with scholars, and willing to follow the guidelines and systems of others.
  • A graduate of a Bachelor’s degree program.

Responsibilities

  • Fully cover all aspects of a lead teacher’s class on days(s) they are absent, including writing and implementing lesson plans, delivering lesson presentations, and grading daily assignments.
  • Cover assignments in more than one Democracy Prep school over the course of the year, potentially in elementary, middle, or high school settings.
  • Ensure scholars experience a classroom culture characterized by high expectations and high support.
  • Create an inclusive classroom and school community by engaging in training, reflection, and dialogue around issues of race, identity, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Plan and prepare for effective implementation of a coherent, research-based curriculum.
  • Develop and use a variety of assessment data to refine curricula and instructional practice.
  • Maintain strong relationships with scholars, families, and colleagues through effective and frequent communication.
  • Continuously improve professional practice through weekly coaching sessions and professional development.
  • Cultivate the social-emotional well-being of all scholars by building a positive classroom culture and leveraging strong partnerships with scholars, their families, and the school's scholar support team.
  • Engage in whole-school events and tasks during long-term coverage assignments, including transitions, family conferences, tutoring, and other activities/duties as assigned by school leadership.
