About The Position

Under the direction of the Director Total Rewards, Compensation & Leaves Management (Director), the Leave of Absence Coordinator is responsible for the daily administration of requested leaves of absence and ADA accommodations. Accurately interprets and applies State and Federal leave laws, including FMLA, USERRA, ADA and UH polices to resolve issues. Responsible for assisting the Director in the overall planning and implementation of University Hospital’s policies and procedures regarding affirmative action/equal employment opportunity. Assist with preparing statistical affirmative action reports by federal, state and local compliance agencies and as requested by internal and external constituents. Facilitates and negotiates religious and disability accommodations. The LOA Coordinator approves or denies leaves and assists with the interactive accommodation process based on knowledge of Federal, State and University Hospital guidelines relating to LOA/ADA policies, regulations, and procedures. The LOA evaluates medical certifications and determines if the medical condition meets the criteria of a serious and/or chronic medical condition based on federal and state statues. The LOA Coordinator also participates in the development of, and conducts, training for employees and supervisors regarding obligations under the various laws, and policies, of LOA and ADA accommodations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Human Resources experience or leave administration experience required.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state leave laws and regulations, including FMLA requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with employees at all organizational levels.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current on changing employment laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and manage competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Access and PowerPoint preferred.
  • Professional Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Administers and manages daily leave of absence requests and ADA accommodation cases.
  • Interprets and applies federal and state leave laws, including: Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), University Hospital policies and procedures.
  • Reviews and evaluates leave requests to determine eligibility and compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Approves or denies leave requests based on federal, state, and University Hospital guidelines.
  • Assesses medical certifications and determines whether conditions meet the criteria for serious or chronic health conditions under applicable laws.
  • Coordinates and supports the interactive accommodation process for employees requiring workplace accommodations.
  • Facilitates, evaluates, and negotiates religious and disability accommodation requests.
  • Assists the Director with the planning, implementation, and administration of Affirmative Action (AA) and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) programs.
  • Prepares and maintains statistical reports and compliance documentation for federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
  • Responds to requests for affirmative action and compliance data from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensures compliance with employment laws, regulations, and organizational policies related to leave administration and accommodations.
  • Develops and delivers training programs for employees and supervisors on: Leave of absence policies, ADA accommodations, Employee and management responsibilities under applicable laws.
  • Provides guidance and consultation to managers and employees regarding leave management, accommodations, and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborates with leadership, Human Resources, and other departments to resolve complex leave and accommodation issues.
