About The Position

The Leave Management Specialist manages the Leave Management Program for the Department of Residential Facilities employees and serves as the department liaison for ADA accommodations led by University HR. This role provides responsive guidance to employees and supervisors, ensures accurate documentation and Workday coordination, and supports operational continuity in a university residential environment through consistent, confidential leave and accommodation administration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Five (5) years of professional human resources experience in the areas of employee benefits, employee leave, or employee relations.
  • Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
  • Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures, and federal, state, and other applicable human resources related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Knowledge of FMLA and ADA.
  • Skill in applying regulatory and legislative knowledge of FMLA and ADA.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
  • Skill in the use of HRIS systems.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and good judgement.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual communication skills: Spanish and/or Haitian Creole strongly preferred (professional workplace fluency for verbal explanations and basic written communication).
  • HRIS/Workday proficiency: Prior experience using Workday (or similar HRIS) to review employee data, run reports, and support leave actions/documentation.
  • Union/labor environment familiarity: Experience working with bargaining unit populations and applying contract-based leave provisions and processes.
  • Operational HR experience: Experience supporting facilities and housekeeping staff in a university or state government institution.
