About The Position

The Lease Operator Manager is responsible for administering the commercial agreements between KAG Canada and Independent Contractors (Lease Operators), supporting operational alignment while respecting each operator’s autonomy over their own business. This role includes contract relationship management, operator engagement and onboarding, equipment coordination, dispatch support, resource planning, and serving as the primary point of contact for resolving related contractual and operational matters. This role operates in recognition that Lease Operators are independent business owners responsible for the management of their own operations, employees, and business decisions.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education beyond high school.
  • Strong knowledge of product handling, specialized equipment, and transportation operations.
  • Minimum 5 years’ transportation industry experience, including leadership experience.
  • Ability to work independently, supervise others, and build strong working relationships.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate day-to-day contractual coordination companywide for Lease Operators, ensuring that KAG’s operational requirements and service expectations are clearly communicated and that contracted obligations are being met.
  • Assess contracted operator capacity against current and projected business volumes across all terminals and entities, and engage additional operators through the contracting process as needed.
  • Support capacity planning by identifying contracted resource requirements and leading the onboarding process for new independent lease operators in accordance with KAG’s contracting procedures.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for contract and operational inquiries during business hours, with defined escalation protocols for urgent operational matters outside of regular hours.
  • Coordinate with Dispatch to align resources with customer and operational requirements and ensure a high level of service for internal and external customers.
  • Communicate available resources to regional dispatch centers and develop strong working relationships to support effective customer service execution.
  • Participate in customer and operational planning, including timely responses to customer requests and preparation of required information for meetings and planning sessions.
  • Conduct site visits for customer service reviews and service-level validation, identifying and resolving issues as required.
  • Manage financial requirements for Lease Operators, including monthly financial reviews, and ongoing monitoring of profitability for both the company and the respective owners.
  • Manage lease operator contracts, including administration, compliance, renewals, and coordination with internal stakeholders as required.
  • Support the annual financial review process for contract enhancements by collecting and reviewing data related to enhancement opportunities.
  • Communicate KAG’s contractual requirements, applicable federal regulations, and operational standards to operators, and confirm ongoing adherence to contracted obligations.
  • Review operator contract files to confirm that minimum contractual standards are met and that operators have provided required documentation confirming compliance with applicable employment standards and CRA obligations for their own employees.
  • Coordinate effective asset utilization and maintenance scheduling between Dispatch and Shop staff responsible for the fleet.
  • Support Lease Operators by assisting with issue resolution in collaboration with the Dispatch team.
  • Liaise with Lease Operators regarding their contractual obligations to KAG, including maintaining open communication and flagging any concerns about contracted service delivery for discussion and resolution.
  • Confirm that operators have met minimum contractual and regulatory training certification requirements as a condition of their agreement with KAG Canada.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
