About The Position

The Learning Specialist will work with students with learning disabilities at the post-secondary level. This role requires a strong understanding of relevant laws, experience in interpreting documentation, and the ability to teach reading and writing skills while developing alternative learning strategies. The specialist will also work with students with various disabilities and foster diversity and inclusivity. Strong organizational and technical skills are essential, along with the ability to collaborate effectively. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, special education, rehabilitation, social work, disability services, or a related field.
• Minimum one year of experience working with students with learning disabilities at the post-secondary level, preferably in a teaching capacity.
• Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other federal laws pertaining to disability in higher education.
• Proven ability to teach reading and writing skills.
• Experience in developing alternative learning strategies.
• Experience working with students with physical and psychological disabilities, as well as those on the autism spectrum.
• Commitment to fostering diversity and inclusivity, with demonstrated competence in working with students from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Strong computer technical abilities, including proficiency with Microsoft and Google products, assistive technologies, data management systems, and software used for student support services.
• Availability to work occasional evening and weekend hours as needed.

Nice To Haves

• Two years of experience working with students with learning disabilities at the post-secondary level.
• Knowledge of assistive technology and its application in educational settings.
• Previous experience in a higher education setting providing academic support services.
• Familiarity with Navigate, Accommodate, or similar student management systems.
