About The Position

The Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA), under the authority of the Emergency Management Act, leads the coordination and co-operation of all organizations involved in emergencies and disasters. This includes emergency and disaster prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery. The AEMA is accountable and responsible to the GoA, to Albertans, to their communities, and to industry for the protection of people, their property, and the environment from the effects of emergency events. Alberta relies on a decentralized “system” for managing the various types of emergency events that occur every year. The AEMA accomplishes its objectives by leading the co-ordination, collaboration and co-operation between all entities involved in prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery activities within this diverse system. Our agency also works to ensure vital public services, such as government services and first responders, are available during a crisis.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and three years of related experience or equivalency
  • Experience coordinating training programs, ideally in emergency management or a structured public sector environment
  • Strong understanding of ICS, AIMS, or comparable incident management frameworks
  • Skill in curriculum administration, version control, and maintaining training standards
  • Ability to onboard, credential, and support instructors while upholding quality assurance expectations
  • Confident communicator able to interpret policy, advise stakeholders, and resolve cross jurisdictional issues
  • Proven stakeholder relations experience with municipalities, provincial agencies, or emergency management partners
  • Strong organizational and tracking skills to manage schedules, outcomes, and compliance requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with the Alberta Incident Management Practitioner Training Standards (AIMPTS)
  • Experience working within a provincial training system such as EMTS
  • Background in adult education, instructional design, or instructor development
  • Knowledge of Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements and compliance processes
  • Experience supporting multi agency collaboration in emergency management contexts

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate provincial ICS training delivery, including course scheduling, instructor assignment, and monitoring of training outcomes.
  • Oversee instructor onboarding and credentialing, ensuring alignment with AIMS standards and ongoing instructional quality.
  • Maintain and update ICS curriculum within the Emergency Management Training System (EMTS), ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and policy alignment.
  • Provide expert guidance on ICS policy and standards, responding to inquiries from municipal, provincial, and partner organizations.
  • Serve as a liaison between AEMA and emergency management partners, supporting collaborative planning and resolving training related issues.
  • Support implementation of the Alberta Incident Management Practitioner Training Standards (AIMPTS) through curriculum oversight, instructor QA, and participant tracking.
  • Promote consistency and compliance across jurisdictions, helping stakeholders interpret Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements and apply them effectively.
