About The Position

This position is based in North Charleston, SC and operates under a hybrid work model (3 days onsite / 2 days remote). The Learning & Development Specialist is responsible for executing learning and development programs that support the achievement of our business goals and foster a high-performing, engaged workforce. This role partners with HR and business stakeholders to assess learning needs, create practical development experiences, facilitate programs, and support consistent execution across corporate and manufacturing teams. This role partners closely with talent management to translate enterprise talent and capability priorities into practical learning solutions, resources, and development experiences. The position requires a blend of instructional design, facilitation, project management, learning technology, and strong execution skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, organizational development, education, business administration, instructional design, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in learning and development, instructional design, talent development, or a related HR discipline.
  • Proven experience designing, developing, coordinating, and implementing learning and development programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate engaging training sessions and workshops.
  • Strong knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, and learning evaluation practices.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, stakeholders, and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience using data and feedback to improve programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with Learning Management Systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, global, or multi-location organization is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Workday Learning or Workday Grow.
  • Experience developing digital learning content or using e-learning authoring tools.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with HR business partners, leaders, talent management, and subject matter experts to assess capability needs, identify skill gaps, and translate agreed business and talent priorities into practical learning solutions.
  • Design and develop engaging learning experiences using a range of methods, including instructor-led training, virtual learning, e-learning, on-the-job learning, coaching resources, and blended learning journeys.
  • Create and maintain course content, facilitator guides, participant materials, job aids, exercises, simulations, videos, and other resources that reinforce learning and application.
  • Apply adult learning and instructional design principles to ensure solutions are relevant, accessible, scalable, and aligned with intended outcomes.
  • Coordinate and execute learning programs for employees and leaders, including leadership and manager development, business and job skills, and enterprise capability-building initiatives.
  • Facilitate engaging training sessions, workshops, team development activities, and virtual learning experiences for audiences across levels and locations.
  • Support program sustainment through reinforcement activities, manager tools, communications, communities of practice, and follow-up learning.
  • Support the coordination, administration, and follow-up of individual and leadership development tools, including 360 assessments, development planning resources, and related participant communications.
  • Manage program logistics, schedules, participant communications, materials, enrollment, and delivery requirements to create a consistent learner experience.
  • Support the administration and effective use of the Learning Management System, including course setup, assignments, learning campaigns, content maintenance, reporting, and learner support.
  • Maintain accurate learning records, calendars, curricula, and program documentation in partnership with HR technology and local learning administrators.
  • Troubleshoot routine learning technology and delivery issues, escalating complex matters to the appropriate partner.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline learning processes, improve self-service, and increase the reach and efficiency of development offerings.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness using participant feedback, assessment results, completion data, stakeholder input, and evidence of behavior change or business impact.
  • Analyze learning data and program feedback to identify trends, recommend improvements, and strengthen learner comprehension, application, reinforcement, and capability attainment.
  • Stay current with adult learning practices, instructional design approaches, and emerging learning technologies, recommending practical innovations that fit Ingevity’s needs.
  • Identify and evaluate external vendors, facilitators, and learning resources that support program needs.
  • Manage vendor relationships and coordinate scheduling, content alignment, delivery quality, contracting inputs, and cost tracking.
  • Monitor vendor performance and recommend adjustments to improve quality, relevance, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with HR and business stakeholders to ensure an integrated approach to employee and leadership development.
  • Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on available learning and development opportunities.
  • Contribute learning expertise, resources, and program support to talent, engagement, performance, onboarding, and change initiatives owned by HR and business partners.
