About The Position

This position will lead 6 Sigma Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) projects within Drivetrain (Torque Convertors, Transmissions, Axles, Final Drives, & CVTs) across a broad range of Caterpillar machines. Work towards a large reduction in customer defects & bottom line warranty expense, while ultimately improving the customer & dealer experience. This is done by improving our solutions & services while effectively communicating and ensuring the improvements are at the lowest possible cost & seamless to customers & extended enterprise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Engineering or Business or an equivalent level of work experience desired.
  • Six Sigma Methodology: Knowledge of the concepts of six sigma DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control) methodology; ability to use the methodology to improve the manufacturing processes and control the improvements by eliminating root causes.
  • Active Learning: Understanding the necessity for continuous personal growth and learning; ability to gauge one's strengths, limitations and interests accurately, and use this knowledge for purposes of performance effectiveness self-development.
  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Influencing: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to impact decisions within and outside own organization.
  • Interpersonal Relationships: Knowledge of the techniques and the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.

  • Must have the ability to learn and do quality analysis and have basic computer skills.
  • Must be very customer focused and can drive change throughout the enterprise effectively.
  • Must be able to manage risk and ambiguity on a project.

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of professional level experience.
  • Experience with Caterpillar drivetrain software & hardware systems & features
  • Experience in FEA, Creo, GD&T, Teamcenter, & Software Development Process
  • Experience running complex Drivetrain CPI projects successfully w/ knowledge of supporting processes
  • Demonstrated excellent project management skills (certification), team leadership skills, and excellent communication skills.
  • Should have knowledge of other functions that provide inputs regularly, i.e., Product Development, Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage approximately 10-12 CPI projects across various stages of implementation.
  • Lead regular cross functional team meetings or workshops to define the problem, create a project plan, implement immediate customer containment actions, identify & investigate issue root causes, facilitate solution(s) creation, validation, and implementation.
  • Work throughout the value streams to ensure solutions are implemented worldwide optimally.
  • Regularly creating/updating publications & systems for communication to worldwide dealers.
  • Regularly summarizing reporting to leaders/clients/dealers on project status and escalating appropriately when roadblocks are encountered.
  • Mentor other project leaders & lead division wide product / process improvement projects.
