About The Position

The City of Alexandria is seeking professional individuals to begin a career in the government Gas Department, located in the heart of Central Louisiana. This role involves performing survey work on the Natural Gas Utility System to ensure compliance with State of Louisiana and Federal mandates. This position is subject to 24-hour call.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED; supplemented by significant experience in maintenance and repair of a natural gas system; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification.
  • Must obtain certifications required by the Office of Pipeline Safety within six (6) months of hire.
  • Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their previous training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment.
  • Must include copies of driver's license, diploma, GED, DD214, degree, etc. with application for consideration.

Responsibilities

  • Applies knowledge of the layout and characteristics of the municipal gas distribution system to safely survey, monitor, and classify leaks in the gas system, and report findings to the utility, as well as state and federal inspectors.
  • Prepares, processes, and maintains the appropriate records; prepares and processes all reports as required by department policies and procedures and applicable state and federal mandates.
  • Maintains a system for conducting and updating surveys.
  • Determines and initiates necessary repairs, precautions, warnings, and safety measures.
  • Ensures compliance with state and federal mandates and guidelines.
  • Operates hand tools, including a hand-held breaker, and equipment related to gas leak surveying; operates a personal computer as necessary to complete essential functions.
  • Inspects, cleans, and maintains various equipment related to gas leak surveying.
