About The Position

The Lead supports the regular functions of the store. Wild Onion Market is a natural foods grocery store with its location in the Rogers Park section of Chicago. The Co-op strives to support and enhance the Chicago community by stocking ethically sourced natural foods, locally produced foods and goods, and through positive cooperative action in-store and in the community.

Requirements

  • Good customer service skills for both internal and external customers
  • Strong attention to detail, good time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle multiple demands, work under time pressure, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to be open, learn, and to take on new responsibilities/challenges
  • Demonstrate objectivity, neutrality, and calmness under pressure
  • Ability to take direction and work independently
  • Should be a team player and results-oriented
  • Must have good analytical ability and be proficient in math
  • Works with guidance from Store Manager
  • Performs a variety of tasks as dictated by demands of the store
  • Relates information to diverse groups both verbally and in writing
  • Makes independent decisions
  • Standing for long periods, bending, walking, reaching, and sitting
  • Ability to climb up and down stepladders and stairs daily
  • Able to lift and carry up 50 lbs. as needed throughout the day
  • One year cashier experience required
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA & other federal, state & local standards - including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
  • Ability to maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA & other federal, state and local standards
  • Compliance with all personnel policies

Nice To Haves

  • Grocery or natural foods experience is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for opening and closing the store as required including balancing drawers and safe
  • Run a register as needed
  • Assist Cashiers with customer concerns
  • Answer the phone
  • Handle Special Orders
  • Help train new employees
  • “Lead by example” following Co-op policies and procedures
  • Communication with staff members should be clear, direct, and respectful in a cooperative style
  • Acts as Manager on Duty in the absence of Store Manager and is responsible for overall store operations
  • Relays information to diverse groups
  • Assists in special projects
  • Assists in other departments as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
