About The Position

This position is responsible for providing direct support to youth in an emergency shelter setting. The Lead Youth Support Advocate will guide and mentor other support staff, ensure the safety and well-being of residents, and facilitate daily activities and programming. This role requires a compassionate and resilient individual dedicated to empowering young people facing challenging circumstances.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in youth services, social work, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Strong understanding of adolescent development and trauma-informed care.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of youth.
  • Proficiency in record-keeping and documentation.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in crisis situations.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Experience working in an emergency shelter or residential setting.
  • Knowledge of local community resources for youth.
  • Bilingual abilities (English/Spanish).

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support and advocacy to youth residing in the emergency shelter.
  • Guide and mentor junior support staff, providing training and supervision.
  • Ensure a safe, supportive, and structured environment for all residents.
  • Facilitate daily living activities, including meals, hygiene, and household chores.
  • Implement and oversee therapeutic and recreational programming for youth.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records and documentation.
  • Collaborate with case managers and other service providers to support youth goals.
  • Respond to crises and emergencies, implementing de-escalation techniques and safety protocols.
  • Conduct regular check-ins with youth to assess needs and provide emotional support.
  • Assist with the intake and orientation process for new residents.
  • Uphold agency policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with all regulations.
