About The Position

The JJYS Lead Youth Development Specialist/Control Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and scheduling activities for residents within a 24-hour JJS facility. This role involves providing constant supervision of all individual and group activities for at-risk youth, ensuring constant awareness of their whereabouts and actions. The supervisor oversees the daily operations of the "Control Room" to maintain the safety and security of youth, employees, volunteers, and the public. Additionally, the position includes supervising JJYS Technicians, which encompasses monitoring their work, providing training, scheduling, hiring, and evaluating performance.

Requirements

• Six years of paid working experience with troubled or at-risk youth.
• Six years of full-time education or a combination of education and experience to equal six years.
• A valid Utah Driver's License.
• Must pass the Integrated Crisis Response (ICR) intervention program within 90 days of employment.
• Ability to speak clearly, concisely, and effectively.
• Ability to listen to and understand information presented verbally.
• Ability to read and understand written information.
• Ability to transport youth.
• Ability to make decisions consistent with the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis.
• Ability to identify and apply appropriate security, safety, and control intervention techniques.
• Ability to assess client physical, mental, social, and behavioral needs.
• Ability to mentor youth within a group setting and help them develop positive plans and goals.
• Ability to provide counseling to youth both individually and in groups surrounding program/facility rules, regulations, and guidelines.
• Ability to write court reports, parole summaries, treatment plans, and supervision standards.
• Ability to lead or functionally supervise staff, delegate work assignments, monitor/review quality of work, schedule staff, provide technical assistance or training, and provide input on performance appraisals, hiring, and discipline.
• Ability to perform facility searches and, when required by policy, youth searches.
• Ability to use security and control techniques to secure people, facilities, property, supplies, or equipment.
• Qualifying work experience includes: Paid work at any JJYS facility, Utah State Hospital, Utah State Developmental Center, private residential youth programs, alternative schools, juvenile probation/ parole, Law enforcement, or programs that work with at-risk or delinquent youths.
• Non-qualifying work experience includes: Volunteer work with youth and unpaid experience.
