About The Position

Join Komatsu and Be Part of Something Big! This role involves managing department projects and supporting department goals, overseeing the creation and lifecycle of Parts, Service, and Operator Manuals for Komatsu Machinery, managing technical service inquiries from the field and internally, maintaining internal and external procedures and standards, and participating in continuous improvement initiatives. The Lead Writer will utilize various project management and content creation tools, analyze engineering and field data, collaborate with subject matter experts, and manage illustration creation. This position also involves managing technical service inquiries and parts change requests, and improving workflow management with external departments.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent in Technical Communication, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent, and five (5) years of progressively responsible, post baccalaureate, related engineering experience.
Experience analyzing engineering data and engineering drawings to identify serviceability.
Experience with XML/Structured Authoring Tools (Framemaker, OxygenXML, Arbortext).
Experience with ERP and BOM Management.
Experience with Technical Writing.
Experience with Project Management.
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop).

Responsibilities

Manage Department Projects and Support Department Goals using Asana, Instagantt, and reporting tools.
Review and approve new project setup and assign due dates based on project criteria.
Review projects weekly to ensure team meets deadlines.
Oversee Department Goals to completion and support team goal completion.
Review team goals to identify potential walls or bottle necks.
Assign new projects based on project forecast using system tools.
Manage creation and lifecycle of Parts, Service, and Operator Manuals for Komatsu Machinery.
Analyze engineering and field data for new machines and machine updates, including Bills of Materials and Engineering Change Notices.
Correct materials based on field notifications and analyze engineering evaluations for new features.
Interview subject matter experts (SMEs) for content creation.
Manage new illustrations through approved vendors and create illustrations as required, utilizing 3D Cad, 2D Part Drawings, 2D Assembly Drawings, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
Manage multiple projects through Asana / Instagantt, including tasks, deadlines, and project status.
Collaborate with the team to ensure projects stay on task.
Maintain and improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for all manual types.
Manage and resolve Technical Service Inquiries from the field and internally using the online field reporting system (SQIS/Salesforce).
Research and resolve content issues to completion, collaborating with customers/SMEs/Komatsu Ltd.
Manage Parts Change Requests (PCR) from the field or Parts Technical team, researching and resolving content issues.
Correct errors in source material and collaborate with the Distribution team as required.
Maintain Internal and External Procedures and Standards, supporting workflow management and SOPs.
Create, revise, and maintain workflows and standard operating procedures for department responsibilities.
Review and improve workflow management with external departments, managing writer/engineering relationships.
Work with engineering management to improve markup review times, quality of meetings, and writer proficiency.
Develop new solutions through technology or systems to improve speed, accuracy, and quality of content creation and delivery.
Support department goals and initiatives.
Perform other tasks as required by management.
