About The Position

This position involves performing daily cleaning functions, leading a team in day-to-day activities, and acting as a mentor to newly hired custodians. The Lead Worker is responsible for ensuring and reporting on the quality and quantity of work completed by their team, assigning rework as needed, and assisting in training staff in proper cleaning procedures and techniques. This role requires close collaboration with the supervisor to ensure all team duties are completed, and prompt response to communications from the supervisor. The position also includes direct cleaning responsibilities such as cleaning and disinfecting restrooms, descaling showers and toilets, scrubbing tile, spot cleaning walls, mopping, and using a kai vac. Additionally, the role involves maintaining restroom supplies, reporting supply and equipment needs, routine glass and mirror cleaning, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, trash and recycling removal, dusting, polishing, and cleaning kitchenettes, fitness centers, child care centers, walls, window sills, corners, crevices, moldings, ledges, door jambs, metal strips, elevators, and stairwells. The Lead Worker is also responsible for cleaning and policing building exteriors, garages, and janitor closets, emptying public ashtrays and urns, spot cleaning service restrooms, and performing or assisting with special restoration work, moving/arranging/lifting heavy items, setting up and taking down furniture for special events, and performing emergency cleaning. Compliance with uniform dress code, personal hygiene standards, and building/security requirements is mandatory. For those on the floor crew, maintaining all floor surfaces and steps, using and measuring chemicals correctly, and performing floor stripping, waxing, burnishing, buffing, and carpet spot cleaning are key. Secondary functions include assisting with inventory, acting as supervisor in their absence, keeping records, removing snow and ice, applying ice melt, tracking and maintaining equipment, and performing other duties as needed. Duties may change at any time.

Six months of custodial experience preferred
Pass and comply with all building and security requirements and procedures

Responsibilities

Comply with all Agency policies and procedures and follow contract specifications
Perform daily cleaning functions while also leading team in day-to-day activities
Act as mentor to newly hired custodians
Ensure and report on quality and quantity of work completed by custodians in team
Assign rework as needed and assist to ensure 100% compliance with contract specifications
Assist with training staff in proper cleaning procedures and techniques
Work closely with supervisor to ensure all duties assigned to team are completed
Promptly answer/respond to all calls or messages from supervisor or designated representative
Immediately report facilities issues such as broken or leaking fixtures to supervisor
Clean and disinfect restrooms and washable surfaces in public areas
Descale showers, toilet bowls, and urinals
Scrub tile, spot clean walls, mop, and kai vac
Keep restrooms supplied with required paper products and soap
Report to supervisor supply needs and equipment issues
Perform routine glass and mirror cleaning
Vacuum area rugs and carpets; sweep and mop floors when required
Pull trash and recycling and place in proper receptacles when required
Dust various surfaces, polish furniture and metal, clean glass tabletops
Clean and disinfect kitchenettes and break rooms
Clean and disinfect fitness centers, and child care centers
Clean walls and window sills
Clean corners, crevices, moldings, ledges, door jambs, and metal strips
Clean elevators and stairwells
Clean and police building exteriors, garages, and janitor closets
Sweep and mop floors, hallways, and lobbies
Empty any public ashtrays and urns in or around buildings
Spot clean service restrooms, and police trash
Perform or assist with special restoration work, as required
Move, arrange, and lift heavy items
Assist with special events by setting up and taking down furniture
Perform emergency cleaning
Comply with uniform dress code and personal hygiene standards
Pass and comply with all building and security requirements and procedures
Maintain all floor surfaces and steps at entrances
Use and measure chemicals correctly
Strip, wax, burnish, buff floors, and spot clean carpets as required by contract
Clean and maintain equipment
Assist with inventory
Act as supervisor when supervisor is absent
Keep records and provide requested reports
Remove snow and ice from exterior areas and apply ice melt as required by contract
Apply ice melt as required
Keep track of and maintain assigned equipment, vehicles, and supplies
Perform other duties and tasks as needed
