About The Position

Perform supervisory and routine custodial activities to maintain buildings & grounds.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate.
  • Two years’ experience with an established Janitorial Contractor.
  • Attended Custodial Training Class for 6 months or other related experience.
  • Basic methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in custodial work and routine maintenance.
  • Proper methods of storing equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Proper lifting techniques.
  • Principles of training and providing work direction to fellow custodians.
  • Safety precautions and procedures.
  • Set an example of using proper PPE.
  • Maintain tools and equipment; perform minor non-technical repairs on equipment.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Meet schedules and timelines.
  • Communicate effectively with others.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on custodial services equipment.
  • Train and provide work direction to others.
  • Assign and review the work of others.

  • Must be able to move heavy equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor stripping equipment, carpet care machinery, and water buckets.

  • Technical certificate in Custodial Cleaning preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, oversee, and participate in custodial activities.
  • Train and provide work direction to assigned employees, assigning and reviewing their work.
  • Plans and implements appropriate responses to emergencies.
  • Perform routine custodial activities, including sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, waxing, and polishing floors, vacuuming carpets, spot cleaning, and maintaining the cafeteria.
  • Report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to the Custodial Supervisor or other appropriate authority.
  • Order custodial supplies by established guidelines and procedures.
  • Maintain regular attendance of all custodians.
  • Respond to emergency cleanups such as spills; maintain records of observed maintenance, repair needs, and safety issues.
  • Operate cleaning equipment, including vacuums, floor strippers, buffers, polishers, carpet shampooers, scrubbers, high-pressure sprayers, manual and power sweepers, and power blowers, as assigned.
  • All other duties as assigned.
