About The Position

This position is responsible for cleaning and maintaining work sites, restrooms, and exterior areas of offices, shops, and other occupied areas in accordance with contract requirements. The Lead Worker will assign and oversee the work of personnel within their area of responsibility. This role involves performing daily inspections of assigned areas, including outside buildings, making independent decisions, and ensuring all necessary corrections are made. The Lead Worker will seek support from next-level management as necessary to ensure services are performed in accordance with contract requirements and company policy. Specific responsibilities may include orienting new employees, explaining duties, conducting familiarization tours, assigning worksheets, and indoctrinating employees on procedures for reporting and responding to fires, hazardous conditions, and items requiring immediate repair. The role also ensures personnel are trained in safe and up-to-date cleaning procedures, completes work schedules, makes assignments, follows up on work performance, ensures time motion forms are completed daily, and adheres to company rules and regulations. The Lead Worker is responsible for ensuring the company-issued pager is carried and operational, that all buildings and assigned vehicles are secured, and that keys are controlled according to policy. They also ensure proper maintenance of assigned vehicles and that employees operate vehicles safely. Coordination with the supervisor on all matters related to project operation, including recommendations for hiring and addressing performance or conduct issues, is required. Scheduling periodic work with team members to ensure compliance with the performance work statement (PWS) and ensuring personal protective equipment is worn as required are also key duties. Daily inspections of assigned areas to ensure quality cleaning, prompt clearing of discrepancies, and notification to the supervisor of any closed or inaccessible buildings are necessary. Maintaining supply inventory, including proper labeling, stocking, and prompt ordering, is crucial. The Lead Worker must report operational problems beyond their ability to remedy, employee on-the-job accidents/incidents, and broken, unsafe, or faulty equipment to the supervisor promptly. Notification to the supervisor regarding customer complaints is also required. Additional responsibilities may include performing other duties as required to fulfill janitorial contract obligations or changes based on customer needs. Some positions may require using a computer for word processing with Microsoft Word and completing spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in a custodial operations facility or comparable setting.
  • Must be authorized for coverage under agency insurance if operating an agency vehicle, have a good driving record, a valid driver’s license, and/or the required level of personal auto insurance.
  • Must be able to complete a background check, per company requirements, satisfactorily.

Nice To Haves

  • Some Lead Worker positions require working knowledge of computer operations, such as Microsoft Word, and completion of spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel.
  • At least one year’s experience in a similar position (lead role) is desired.
  • Some positions may require using a computer operating on the Windows operating system to perform word processing with Microsoft Word, and completing spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel is required for some Lead Worker positions.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans and keeps work sites, restrooms, and exterior areas of offices, shops, and other occupied areas in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Assigns and oversees work by personnel assigned to the individual’s area of responsibility.
  • Performs daily inspection of assigned areas, including outside buildings.
  • Makes independent decisions and ensures that all necessary corrections are made, seeking support from next level management as necessary.
  • Orients new employees, explains their duties, takes them on a familiarization tour, and assigns them worksheets for reference.
  • Indoctrinates employees in procedures for reporting and responding to fires, hazardous conditions, and items requiring immediate repair.
  • Ensures that personnel are trained to perform work in accordance with safe and up-to-date cleaning procedures and methods.
  • Completes work schedule for employees, makes work assignments, follows up to ensure work is being performed properly, ensures that time motion forms are completed daily, and adheres to company rules and regulations.
  • Ensures that the company-issued pager (if assigned) is carried and is operational during assigned work hours for communication with supervisor and the office staff.
  • Ensures that all buildings and assigned vehicle(s) are secured, and that keys are controlled according to policy/supervisor instructions.
  • Ensures that proper maintenance of assigned vehicles is performed on schedule and/or when issues are identified, and that employees are operating vehicles safely in accordance with company policy and rules/regulations of the government facility.
  • Coordinates all matters related to the successful operation of the project with the supervisor, including recommendations for hiring decisions and/or appropriate actions to address performance and/or conduct/attendance issues as needed.
  • Schedules periodic work with assigned team members to ensure compliance with the performance work statement (PWS) provided by the supervisor.
  • Ensures personal protective equipment is worn as required.
  • Performs daily inspection of assigned areas to ensure timely and proper quality cleaning is being accomplished, cleaning discrepancies are cleared promptly, and/or notifies supervisor of any/all buildings or areas that were scheduled to be cleaned that were closed or inaccessible.
  • Maintains supply inventory, including proper labeling, stocking in an organized/neat manner, and ordering supplies promptly so that adequate inventory is always available.
  • Reports all operational problems beyond your ability to remedy to the supervisor.
  • Reports all employee on-the-job accidents/incidents to the supervisor promptly.
  • Periodically inspects assigned equipment and reports broken, unsafe, or faulty equipment to the supervisor.
  • Notifies supervisor regarding customer complaints.
  • Performs other duties as required to fulfill janitorial contract obligations or changes based on customer needs.
  • Spot Cleans (Doors, Mirrors, Walls, Windows, etc.).
  • Performs High Dusting (Between 6.5’ and 10’).
  • Washes Windows (exterior/interior).
  • Cleans Interior Glass.
  • Cleans glass/mirrors to the standards as specified in paragraph 5.14.1.28.
  • Spot Cleans Children’s Furniture.
  • Performs Routine Cleaning of Children’s Furniture.
  • Collects and Disposes of All Trash and Debris.
  • Cleans Dryer Ducts.
  • Cleans Washers/Dryers.
  • Maintains Grounds (cleaning playground equipment, gathering areas, and trash pick-up).
