To carry out our mission and continue to provide the safest and best drinking water to our community, we are seeking a skilled Lead Water Quality Technician to provide specialized maintenance of water infrastructure.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in water/wastewater infrastructure inspection, maintenance/repair, or related work
  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
  • Water Distribution License
  • Knowledge of municipal water system and mapping
  • Knowledge of standard practices, methods and materials of assigned work
  • Knowledge of basic mathematical concepts
  • Knowledge of record-keeping principles
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety principles and practices
  • Knowledge of uses and properties of supplies and equipment
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws, codes, regulations (based on assignment)
  • Knowledge of customer service principles
  • Knowledge of specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment
  • Knowledge of traffic control and work zone safety
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures including the use of standard office equipment and computer applications such as word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications
  • Skill in leading and mentoring others
  • Skill in responding to emergency situations to mitigate damage to utilities, highways infrastructure and provide public health and safety
  • Skill in operating all vehicles and equipment, with concern for safety at all times
  • Skill in safe driving and navigating City streets with large vehicles
  • Skill in interacting with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, and others to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
  • Skill in following directions and meeting standards
  • Ability to manage projects and inventory
  • Ability to properly setup work zones and safely work in City roadways
  • Ability to perform inspections and repair to ensure safe operating conditions
  • Ability to monitor and maintain required supplies, materials, and inventory
  • Ability to comprehend reference books and manuals
  • Ability to utilize a computer and relevant software applications
  • Ability to lead and train others, trouble shoot issues, and make sound judgment calls

Responsibilities

  • Performs advanced specialized activities in assignment area and/or lead technical and specialized skilled work activities
  • Performs or coordinates the delivery of specialized service work; may conduct inspections and sampling; reviews completed work and/or inspection/sampling results; follows up on issues related to compliance or maintenance and repairs
  • Responds to inquiries, concerns and information requests from customers; research issues and account information; recommends field-related work activities; refers complex issues to appropriate resource
  • Prepares and maintains activity logs, reports, data, files, spreadsheets and assignment-related documentation
  • Assists with special projects as assigned
  • Monitoring and performing sampling to ensure compliance with applicable regulations
  • Reporting process control or plant irregularities determined from sampling
  • Conducting trunk line and pump station sampling
  • May serve as a lead worker by assigning work and monitoring work completion
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned
