About The Position

This position supports veterinarians, mentors the technician and assistant team, oversees daily clinical workflow, and ensures patient care, safety, and client communication meets our high standards. The Lead Technician acts as a clinical leader on the floor while modeling professionalism, teamwork, and excellence in patient care.

Requirements

A Registered Veterinary Technician with an active license, 3+ years professional experience.
Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience.
Strong technical skills, including venipuncture, catheter placement, radiology, anesthesia monitoring, and emergency procedures.
Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to remain calm, focused, and supportive in high-stress situations.
Excellent client communication and medical record management skills.
Comprehensive knowledge of veterinary procedures, preventative care, and hospital operations.
Experience in radiographic positioning and image capture.
Experience in anesthesia administration and surgical monitoring.
Commitment to professional ethics and continuous learning.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to animal-related hazards.
Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises.
May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

Nice To Haves

Exceptionally experienced non-licensed applicants will be considered for this role, but RVT status is preferred.
Additional skills in dental radiography being a plus.

Responsibilities

Serve as a mentor and resource for technicians and assistants.
Assist with onboarding and training of new clinical staff.
Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work culture.
Maintain high standards for patient monitoring, comfort, and safety.
Assign tasks to technicians and assistants based on skill level and case urgency.
Ensure treatment plans and estimates are properly communicated and documented.
Oversee radiology, laboratory testing, IV catheter placement, fluid therapy, and medication administration.
Ensure compliance with radiation safety, anesthesia monitoring, infection control, and controlled substance protocols.
Promote OSHA principles and proper PPE use.
Maintain accurate medical records and documentation.
Assist with difficult or high-stress client interactions as needed.
Ensure client education and follow-up instructions are accurate and complete.
Management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability.
Surgical preparation and assistance including anesthetic management.
