Doctors of Veterinary Medicine (DVMs) are considered clinic captains, providing professional mentorship, supervising treatment, and ensuring clinical excellence. They are expected to uphold the Juno Standard of Care, practicing high-quality veterinary medicine with compassion and collaboration, ensuring every pet and person feels valued. Juno veterinarians are seen as the heart behind every act of compassion. As a Lead DVM, the role involves shaping associate DVMs into excellent, compassionate doctors and collaborative colleagues, as well as partnering with the Practice Manager (PM) to support the success of clinic teams through medicine, member experience, and efficient operations.

  • Have a basic interest in and/or understanding of veterinary business metrics and how good medicine leads to a healthy business
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in clinic
  • Love all things wellness, medicine, surgery and dentistry
  • Medical competence: able to diagnose and treat infectious, inflammatory, metabolic, degenerative, physiologic and environmental disease
  • Urgent care: able to triage and stabilize urgent/emergent cases before referring
  • Surgical competence: feline spay and neuter, canine spay and neuter (including mature and large breed), cryptorchid neuter, umbilical hernia repair, mass removals, cystotomy, laceration repair, eyelid surgery, enucleation, gastropexy
  • Dental competence: charting, reading XR, gingival flaps, burring and sectioning, extractions, closing extraction sites

Responsibilities

  • Manage medical safety reports and medical quality
  • Shadow appointments and review medical records with the intent to mentor as needed
  • Have consistent 1:1s with DVMs to coach them on medicine, surgery, dentistry, member experience and team communication
  • Partner with PM to support medical operational efficiency, member experience, and team development
  • Conduct regular meetings with DVMs, PM, leads, the National Medical Director (NMD), and other Lead DVMs
  • Perform annual DVM reviews and development planning
  • Utilize DVM status to its highest level in medicine, surgery and dentistry, and as a leader in the clinic
  • Primarily responsible for your own patients, including appointments, procedures, interpreting lab work, prescribing medication, and following up
  • Handle similar follow-ups on clinic patients when the primary vet is not in the clinic or available
  • Ensure timely completion of charting and tasks
  • Forge connections between members and Juno through positive client experience by way of proactive client plan formulation, small conflict resolution, thoroughness and efficiency
  • Actively participate in all team meetings to improve overall medical quality
  • Coach and support inexperienced doctors and support team members
  • Develop positive relationships with the team
  • Clearly and efficiently communicate wants / needs with the support team and leadership team
  • Align with and promote Juno initiatives
  • Seek to understand basic business needs, metrics, and benchmarks
  • Expand service offerings through CE and trainings
  • Supervise treatment and ensure clinical excellence
  • Uphold and practice the Juno Standard of Care, veterinary medicine of the highest quality
  • Shape associate DVMs into excellent and compassionate doctors, collaborative colleagues, and thoughtful partners in Juno’s evolution of pet care
  • Partner with the PM to understand and support the success of clinic teams through medicine, member experience, and efficient operations
