Lead Ultrasound Technologist
About The Position
Works under the supervision of the Manager of Ultrasound. The Lead Ultrasound technologist's primary job function is to coordinate the daily activities of the department. Assists in planning and preparing work priorities and assigning duties. Assists with scheduling to ensure adequate staffing on assigned shifts, regulatory and departmental protocols. Orients and trains new employees including department protocols and safety practices. Performs diagnostic ultrasound imaging studies according to regulatory and departmental protocols. Regularly performs duties of an ultrasound technologist. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
- Completion of Certificate Program or Associate's Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography program required
- ARDMS registered in abdomen and OBGYN
- BLS within 90 day introductory required
- Minimum one year previous ultrasound experience through an accredited ultrasound program, or successful completion of in-house cross training preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assess physician's orders to ensure correct exam.
- Obtains and documents patient medical history information.
- Properly identifies patient.
- Determines extent of exam and archives images to PACS system.
- Discusses imaging information with radiologist and other physicians.
- Observes staff in performance of duties and demonstrates techniques to improve quality and job efficiency.
- Assists physicians during procedures as needed.
- Behaves in a professional manner at all times (includes not abusing telephone privileges, breaks, socializing, and being consistently punctual etc.). Acknowledges and adheres to the Standards of Behavior handbook.
- Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field.
- Requests equipment service as needed.
- Responsible for the orientation and training of new employees, including safety practices and universal precautions.
- Maintains clean work area and equipment.
- Responsible for usage and ordering of supplies.
- Responsible for equipment quality control.
- Performs pre-cleaning, decontamination, and transports instruments that have been used on patients appropriately.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Performs intermediate-level disinfection and/or high level disinfection per the Instructions for Use (IFU) by the manufacture. This includes ensuring the scopes or probes used within the department are cleaned, disinfected, maintained and stored per the IFU’s
