About The Position

The Lead Turbine Design Engineer leads, performs, mentors, and provides technical expertise in the design and analysis of cooled and uncooled turbine components, particularly blades and vanes. The role is technically responsible for turbine-component projects, contributes to identifying and developing new components and growth engines, and supports existing fielded engines. It involves working with cross-functional teams and global research partners to develop next-generation simulation and analysis capabilities by integrating AI with computational tools such as CFD and multiphysics solvers. The engineer leads design efforts, reports technical results to internal and customer senior stakeholders, and leads proposals addressing future business opportunities, value engineering, and program or process changes. The position also supports turbine-component testing and qualification, continuous improvement, and development of Physics-AI and surrogate models for engineering workflows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in turbine-component design and analysis or a related mechanical-engineering design discipline; at least 6 years of experience is required with a Ph.D. in a related field.
  • Must be a U.S. Person, defined as a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or someone with protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status, or have the ability to obtain export authorization.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced knowledge of thermal and fluid sciences as applied to cooled turbine-component design.
  • Proficiency with advanced CFD and CHT analysis tools such as STAR-CCM+.
  • Knowledge of turbine manufacturing and casting processes.
  • Knowledge of and prior experience developing AI models for physics-based simulation, engineering analysis, multiphysics modeling, or surrogate modeling.
  • Demonstrated team leadership abilities, including motivating and mentoring others.
  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to serve in varied roles within cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working with global teams across time zones.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and participate in multidisciplinary engineering tasks for the design, development, and testing of turbine components, particularly turbine blades and vanes.
  • Conceive innovative turbine-component cooling schemes that minimize cooling-flow requirements while achieving durable designs.
  • Champion continuous improvement of turbine design systems through lessons learned, best practices, and comparative benchmarking to reduce design cycle time and development costs.
  • Lead engine-test activities for turbine-component validation and qualification, including selecting instrumentation, creating test plans, and participating in engine tests.
  • Participate in and contribute to the development of Physics-AI models and surrogate models to accelerate CFD and thermal-analysis workflows.
  • Work with enterprise project engineers and product chiefs to support development of new growth engines and existing fielded engines.
  • Drive strategies supporting the Turbines department’s and Honeywell Aerospace’s vision and objectives, serving as a primary technical authority recognized by business management.
  • Communicate technical results to internal and external customers and senior stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior engineers.

Benefits

  • Employer-subsidized medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
  • Short-term and long-term disability coverage.
  • 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, and health savings accounts.
  • Employee assistance program and educational assistance.
  • Parental leave and 12 paid holidays.
  • Paid time off for vacation, personal, and sick time.
